About
Lindsay A. Rosenwald, MD. is a visionary in the biotechnology industry.
Dr. Rosenwald has used his financial expertise and medical knowledge to found, support, advance, and invest in numerous biotech businesses and is involved in philanthropic activities. Having 18 years experience as an entrepreneur, Dr. Rosenwald has established a successful reputation as a pharmaceutical and biotechnology financier.
Dr. Rosenwald has combined his financial skills, business astuteness, and medical knowledge to advance a cure for a lethal form of leukemia, Arsenic Trioxide. This new drug was ready for market in less than 30 months—a record time for obtaining approval through the Federal Drug Administration.
Another biotech company that Dr. Rosenwald founded and advanced is Cougar Biotechnology. It was sold in 2009 for about $1 billion to Johnson and Johnson, although its drug for prostrate cancer had only completed phase 2 of its clinical trials.
This sale to Johnson and Johnson holds the record for the highest price ever paid for a drug that had not completed phase 3 clinical trials.
Because medical breakthroughs are constantly occurring, smaller biotechnology and biomedical companies will become critically important. These companies are dedicated to the development of a few specialized products, especially with the demand for safer and more effective treatments for major diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Also with more and more publicity on debilitating diseases and rare genetic diseases, Dr. Rosenwald believes that the biotechnology industry will experience rapid growth during the next 20 years.
As an entrepreneur, financier and investor, his Corporate Development Company facilitates both drug development and corporate development activities. His portfolio companies currently have numerous compounds currently in clinical trials. One of Dr. Rosenwald’s companies is a FINRA-registered company. As a broker-dealer company, BioCapital has raised approximately $950,000,000 since its inception. Another of Dr. Rosenwald’s portfolio companies that he supported is PolaRx BioParmaceutical, Inc. which developed the prostrate cancer drug Arsenic Trioxide.
Dr. Rosenwald supports and promotes the medical community through his philanthropic endeavors. His foundation—the Rosenwald Foundation—supports numerous scientists in biotechnology by funding their research and development of pharmaceuticals and medical technologies. Dr. Rosenwald believes in keeping abreast of ideas and needs by serving on advisory boards such as the Columbia-Presbyterian Health Sciences Advisory Counsel.
Dr. Rosenwald is a talented investment banker, venture capitalist, hedge fund manager, and founder, director, and administrator of several businesses.
